Good for Business - Episode 16 - Keyton Blocher, Fighting for His Life
In this episode, host Colin Krieger interviews Keyton Blocher, a 26-year-old cancer patient who is sharing his journey with Hodgkin's Lymphoma while managing a rare heart condition. Keyton discusses his diagnosis, treatment challenges, and his mission to create awareness through his "Legacy Dad" social media project.
Blocher, diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2023, also has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, requiring multiple surgeries since birth. Despite his heart condition, he underwent aggressive chemo regimens, including ABVD, which affected his immune system. His wife Jessica, a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force, is stationed in Columbus, Mississippi. His son, Rex, also has a heart condition, but has only needed one surgery so far. Keaton's journey includes dealing with unsolicited advice, the emotional toll of cancer, and the importance of community support. He has started a social media campaign called "Legacy Dad" to provide practical tips and emotional support for other cancer patients and their families. The conversation revolves around his experience with cancer, his efforts to create lasting memories for his family, and the community's support. Blocher discusses the importance of obtaining specific help – such as rides for his kids – and the challenges of people not knowing how to help. He mentions creating an Amazon wish list for necessary items like blood pressure monitors and a wheelchair. The discussion also covers plans for a GoFundMe campaign, bucket list trips, and the creation of a clothing line with a pocket for practicality.
